After breakfast there was time to spare so I
walked down to Lake Bohinj to take a few photos.
With little wind there were good reflections on the
water and a group of ducks were just about waking
up.
We caught the tourist bus
to travel to the Koča pri Savica car park, west of
Lake Bohinj. Here the valley is closed by the rock
barrier of Komarča, a scene of forest, crag and
mountain. A forest path goes north on a direct
assault of the Komarča wall; a very steep path,
through beech woods nearly all the way and aided in
places by cables, iron rungs and pegs. Following
this route we ascended 2,000
feet in the first mile and were pleased to find a sheltered dell
where we could take a well-earned break. Continuing
on our way we paid a brief visit to Black Lake, the
lowest-lying lake in the Triglav Lakes Valley. It is
named for its location in a basin in the middle of
the forest, which stretches right to the edge of the
Komarča rock face. We followed a more gentle stretch
before the trail climbed again to enter the Seven
Lakes Valley proper. Walking past the Green and Blue
Lakes (Double Lake) we reached the Koča pri Jezeru
where the spacious outlook was bordered by a long
line of white limestone cliffs.
Having eaten lunch at the Koča our route
continued through the mountains and across basins,
one containing a dwarf pine forest. Eventually we
caught sight of the Komni hut in the distance, a
large hut with great views into the Bohinj valley. A
long zig-zag path, with many shortcuts, took us down
to the road (1 hour 20 minutes) where we caught the
bus with 10 minutes to spare! |
