Total Descent: 3,730 feet
Maximum Altitude: 5,583 feet
Time: 9 hours

Setting off from the hotel we walked through Stara Fužina which is a starting point for climbing Triglav, a 2 day hike. After climbing a steep track to Vogar the Kosijev Dom provided the perfect spot for our morning break. Suitably refreshed we then climbed up a steep gully to the highest point of the walk - a good reason for another short break (as well as time to get our breath back!). A pleasant walk through meadows brought us in sight of the Bregarjevo Zavetišče, a fantastic high level hut with great views to the surrounding mountains. The buildings resembled a set from a 'hillbilly' film and the proprietor was dressed to match - but we had no idea of the surprise to come. Settling down to our picnic lunch and the drinks purchased at the hut we heard unusual sounds coming from the doorway. This was followed by the appearance of the proprietor playing a piano accordion while his brother accompanied him on a wash board. What a fantastic treat, made all the better by the 'Dancing Ramblers'! We eventually dragged ourselves away from this enjoyable interlude and made our way to yet another Dom. Then we followed a wide track which gradually zig-zagged all the way back to Stara Fužina and the hotel. What a start to our holiday!

Al tells us about the small hamlet of Stara Fužina

A picturesque sign points the way . . .

and Lake Bohinj comes into view with a misty blanket brought by the previous day's rain

The mountains come into view . . .

and the sun appears as we enter the woodland

Looks like renovation has begun - and the wood is stacked for winter

The Kosijev Dom where we take our first break . . .

and a novel use for redundant skis

Into the woods again . . .

and through some rather large leaves

The tracks are well-signed

Time for another break . . .

before climbing up the gully . . .

and stopping for a breather at the highest point of the walk

The beginning of a short descent provides views across the mountains . . .

and down to the Bregarjevo Zavetišče . . .

where the host is waiting to greet us . . .

and surprise us with a musical interlude

Some of the group join in the fun . . .

and the host returns to tell us about his property . . .

which includes overnight accommodation

Unfortunately we have to say our 'goodbyes' . . .

and continue on our way

We eventually reach a lake . . .

which can best be seen . . .

from the Koča na Pl. pri Jezeru - where another stop is in order
