Leaving the hotel we made our way to the old centre of Sant Elm before heading out onto the smugglers’ track. This brought us to the ruined tower, Torre de Cala en Basset built in the 16th century and was part of the network of towers used to control the coast and to protect the town against pirate attacks. A gradual, then steep climb took us on the path to Sa Trapa, the ruins of a Trapist monastery. After taking lunch here we climbed to the highest point of the walk at Coll de ses Animes. The descent was via a landrover track that zig-zagged down the hillside. Turning off through the woods a good path took us back into Sant Elm in time for a swim before dinner. |

We start off . . . .
by making our way . . .
to the old part of Sant Elm . . .
where the houses back immediately onto the sea
Looking back over Sant Elm as we climb
One of the many towers along this coast . . .
with views over to Dragonera . . .
and a chance to zoom into the summit
The iron rungs in the wall . . .
give access to the top of the tower
Cala en Bassett from above the tower
We drop down through the woods . . .
to approach Cala en Bassett . . .
but it is rather inaccessible
However, the higher perspective . . .
shows up the colours of the sea
Time for a pause . . .
and another photo of Dragonera
Our next target . . .
the ruins of the Sa Trapa monastery . . .
where we take time out for a lunch stop
From the dining room . . .
the sun gradually disappears behind Dragonera
