Middle Fell, Seatallan & Buckbarrow

22/10/2013

Walk: Middle Fell, Seatallan, Cat Bields, Buckbarrow, Gill Beck
Start Point: Greendale Grid Ref: NY 144 056
Distance: 6.5 miles Ascent: 2,530 feet
Max Altitude: 2,317 feet Time: 4 hours
Weather Mist, wind & rain
Comments: Leaving the grass verge we soon climbed up into the mist with the rain  becoming heavier the higher we got. After a few false summits looming in the mist we eventually reached the summit of Middle Fell but had only a brief pause before heading along the ridge to the hause above Greendale Tarn.  From here a clear path led up the side of Seatallan and across to the trig point - again in the mist. The nearby shelter was ideal for our lunch stop and the rain managed to hold off for a time. The path to Cat Bields follows a straight line but was boggy for much of the way. We then made our way to Buckbarrow by which time the mist was beginning to clear. A meandering path took us down to Gill Beck and became rocky as it descended beside the beck. An easy stretch along the road took us back to the car.
