Walk: Burn Fell, Dunsop Head, Whitendale, Roman Road, Croasdale Fell, Tenter Hill
Start Point: Slaidburn car park (£1.80) Grid Ref: SD 714 521
Distance: 13.5 miles Ascent: 2,300 feet
Weather: Some heavy rain showers Time: 6.25 hours
Comments: After walking up the road past the Hark to Bounty we climbed parallel to Dunsop Brook before veering off to reach the trig point on Burn Fell. Circumnavigating the boggy sections we continued on to Dunsop Head and followed the peat bog track to Whitendale. A short section of good path soon deteriorated to a narrow and boggy track as it made its way across Whitendale Fell to the Hornby Road track. We followed this track, the site of a Roman Road, to reach a tarmac road which led back into Slaidburn. A good walk which was dry later in the day.

There have been original creative responses from a range of artists,
including Poet Laureate, Carol Ann Duffy, and a new walking trail has been
established across Lancashire featuring work by Sue Flowers

John pointed out an alternative path . . .

but Robb advised us to stay on the main track as he had previously explored the alternative route
